Meridian Health Foundation
In 2017, 8,639 people donated more than $38 million towards Meridian Health Foundation’s Giving Heals campaign. We make it a priority to ensure all donations received are dedicated to the local community the donor wishes to support. The Foundations also transferred more than $10 million to the hospitals and partner companies in 2017, demonstrating the extraordinary impact philanthropy has made across Hackensack Meridian Health’s southern regional hospitals and health services.
Medical and Dental Staff Conference Center at HOPE Tower
The Medical and Dental Staff of Jersey Shore University Medical Center made a significant $1 million donation in support of HOPE Tower. Their gift was specifically dedicated to building out the tenth floor conference center where academic conferences and symposia will take place as well as board, clinical and educational meetings. We are honored that the medical and dental staff have made this extraordinary investment in the hospital, and the community as a whole. Michael F. Lospinuso, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and former medical staff president played an integral role in bringing this opportunity to light, as well as current medical staff president and pathologist, Brian S. Erler, M.D.
Major Developments in Pediatric Cancer Care
A pediatric cancer diagnosis is one of the hardest things a family can endure. When you have to travel far away for treatment, it can become even more devastating and difficult to manage. The Dorothy B. Hersh Foundation’s $1 million donation to fund the Dorothy B. Hersh Foundation Hematology and Oncology Center at HOPE Tower will help provide outpatient oncology treatment in an environment designed especially for our pediatric patients and their families. Most importantly, the Center will be close to home to serve patients in our area.
Bringing GME Program to Life
There is ongoing media coverage about the physician shortage, both in New Jersey and nationwide. Ocean Medical Center has paid careful attention to the trends and is responding directly to the crisis by introducing a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program.
Enthusiastic about the impact the GME program will have on health care and education in our community, as well as the potential to drive the local economy, the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation proudly supported the initiative through a $1 million donation. With this significant gift from the Grunins, Ocean Medical Center can now help ensure bright, young and driven physicians stay local to address the primary care needs of our growing community.
Calling on the Community
For a substantial number of years, Joan and Robert Rechnitz have been dedicated supporters of Riverview Medical Center, funding several innovative technologies and programs which have impacted thousands of lives throughout this vibrant community we call home. The Rechnitz family’s most recent gift comes with the deep desire to inspire others to give back to give to that community.
Group’s Generosity Spans New Jersey
Coastal Imaging, LLC is a private practice radiology group with 35 people on staff who are an integral part of Hackensack Meridian Health. Not only does this team provide specialty access to four hospitals in the Network (Southern Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center and Bayshore Medical Center) and multiple outpatient centers, but they have been generously supporting Meridian Health Foundations for years.
Enhancing Emergency Services
Bayshore Medical Center is planning major enhancements to emergency services, and support from the community is critical in bringing the hospital’s vision to reality. Several leaders in the Holmdel and Monmouth County area have already committed significant funds to the future of Bayshore Medical Center, and we are thrilled to see the transformation take place.
Medical Staff Makes Major Commitment
With enhanced emergency services on the horizon, the Medical Staff at Raritan Bay Medical Center made a $200,000 donation in support of this extremely exciting project to come. The generous group is one of the first to make a leadership commitment, recognizing the importance of philanthropy in bringing significant improvements to the medical center.
A Warm and Inviting Place that Feels Like Home
Frank Ostrowski moved to the Hackensack Meridian Willows Assisted Living Community nearly 10 years ago with his wife, Mary. They were married for 62 years when she passed, and when that time came Frank was grateful to be in a place he considered home, surrounded by friends who understood what he was going through.
A Record-Breaking Gala!

The event took place on Saturday, November 18 at New Jersey’s iconic historical venue, Ellis Island, where Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems, Inc. was honored for his dedication to supporting health care, and many other wonderful causes, in the community.
