Palisades Medical Center

President’s Message

2016 was a truly momentous year for our medical center. We ushered in a new era of health care for our community as Palisades Medical Center joined Hackensack University Health Network and then, following the merger with Meridian Health, became part of the most comprehensive and integrated health network in New Jersey.

These historic mergers built on our 116-year legacy and have positioned us to be the leading and strongest provider of health care in Hudson County. And now, as a member of Hackensack Meridian Health, we will continue our commitment to quality, enhance access to exceptional clinical programs and secure our financial stability for years to come.

Most importantly, the new Palisades Medical Center represents tremendous benefits for our patients and local residents. We now have the resources to deliver the highest-quality care that the people of our area deserve. We are now better, stronger, more effective and more efficient. Some of the benefits that have already made a positive effect on our community include:

  • Access to renowned specialized services and sub-specialty care on our local campus, including Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Neonatology
  • Best clinical practices from New Jersey’s premiere health care network
  • Capital investment for new technology, services and physical plant improvements
  • Advanced treatment for local cancer patients at The John Theurer Cancer Center at Palisades, bolstered by a new clinical partnership between Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Hackensack Meridian Health

Being a part of the Hackensack Meridian Health family, we are making it easier than ever for local families to get exceptional health care, right here in our community. The excitement of what we can provide our community is just beginning. Working with our partners, we will continue to evolve to meet the expanding health care needs of our growing communities. Moving forward, our combined efforts will enable us to take medicine further than ever before.

Welcome to the Network!

On March 1, 2016, Hackensack University Health Network welcomed Palisades Medical Center to its family, representing the Network’s fourth hospital in Northern New Jersey at the time. To celebrate the historic milestone, Palisades Medical Center hosted an on-campus community event.

Since 1978, Palisades has been providing quality care at its current River Road location – establishing itself as a trusted member of the community. It comprises a 202-bed medical center and The Harborage, a 247-bed nursing home facility. This development was the culmination of a very successful partnership. It built upon the clinical affiliation formed in June of 2012 to collaborate and expand clinical programs and services, further improving the high-quality medical care.

Palisades provides care to patients in Hudson and Southern Bergen counties. Hackensack University Health Network and Palisades worked collaboratively to enhance services that include pediatric cardiology, neonatology and oncology. In 2015, Palisades Medical Center opened a new, 57,000-square-foot outpatient facility overlooking the Hudson River that offers additional services of Hackensack University Medical Center’s John Theurer Cancer Center at Palisades. Patients receive the same world-class cancer care available at The John Theurer Cancer Center in an additional location.

Recognized as a Top Hospital

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our medical staff, team members, volunteers and community partners, Palisades Medical Center was ranked among the top hospitals in the state by Inside Jersey magazine and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. for the third year in a row. The prestigious “2016 Top Hospitals in New Jersey” list was tabulated based on votes from 2,202 licensed physicians in the state, and Palisades Medical Center was ranked the #4 hospital in the state among hospitals with 350 beds or fewer. This latest accolade underscores our continued improvement in all clinical areas thanks to the quality and efforts of our medical professionals.

Quality Stroke Care

Palisades Medical Center recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. This distinction acknowledges the medical center as a true leader in stroke care, providing the highest standard of service for stroke patients in the surrounding community. This recognition as a Primary Stroke Center was earned after a rigorous onsite review earlier this year by The Joint Commission. Their experts evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.

New Scholarship Program Rewards Passion for Community Service

This past year, the medical center announced an exciting, new HackensackUMC Palisades Community Service Merit Scholarship Program that will provide $32,000 in scholarship funding for students at eight local high schools in our medical center’s primary service area. This unique scholarship rewards high school seniors who share the hospital’s commitment to community service and caring for our neighbors. It is our way to reward high school seniors who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in community service while maintaining academic success.

This scholarship builds on our community benefit services and programs, which are an integral part of our mission at Palisades Medical Center. Throughout the year, team members and volunteers take an active role in their communities through the Palisades Medical Center Community Outreach Program to provide free health screenings and education programs that help improve the lives of thousands of local residents. In fact, these outreach efforts have been recognized by the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) with its prestigious Community Outreach Award for our work in educating residents, improving access to care and reducing health disparities.
